Desensitizing Teeth in Danbury, CT

Tooth Sensitivity Treatment in Danbury, CT

Don’t Let Sensitive Teeth Stop You From Smiling
Do you feel a sudden zing of pain when you drink something cold, eat ice cream, or even just brush your teeth? That sharp, shooting feeling might mean you have sensitive teeth—and you're not alone.

At Danbury Smiles, we help patients get to the root of their tooth sensitivity and find real, lasting relief.

What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?

Most of the time, sensitive teeth are caused by exposed dentin—the layer underneath your tooth’s hard enamel. Think of dentin like a sponge filled with tiny tunnels that lead directly to the nerves inside your tooth. When that dentin is exposed, hot, cold, or sweet foods can trigger pain fast.  Desensitizing Treatment seals those tiny tunnels.
Common reasons for dentin exposure include:

• Worn-down enamel (from brushing too hard, acid erosion, or grinding)
• Gum recession, where the roots of your teeth become exposed
• Cavities or tooth decay
• Chipped or cracked teeth
• Old or damaged fillings

The good news? Once we figure out what’s causing your sensitivity, we can treat it—often the same day.

What to Expect at Your Visit

At Danbury Smiles, we don’t guess—we diagnose. Here's what you can expect:

✅ A gentle dental exam to check for cavities, cracks, gum problems, or worn enamel
✅ A clear explanation of what’s causing your pain
✅ A custom plan with the best treatment options for your teeth

How We Treat Sensitive Teeth

Depending on the cause, Dr. Landress may recommend one or more of the following:

In-Office Desensitizing Treatment

This is a quick and easy procedure we do right here in our office. We apply a special liquid or gel to the sensitive area
that helps block pain signals—and it often gives you instant relief that lasts for months.

• Desensitizing Toothpaste

Some toothpastes are made to block nerve signals. We'll help you pick the most effective one (not all are created equal!).

• Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride strengthens enamel and can reduce pain over time. It’s great for protecting teeth from future sensitivity, too.

• Dental Bonding
For exposed roots or chipped teeth, we can use tooth-colored bonding material to seal the sensitive areas and stop the pain.

• Gum Grafting
If your gums have pulled away from your teeth, we may recommend a referral for a gum graft to cover exposed roots and
protect them from further damage.

• Root Canal Therapy

In cases of deep decay or nerve exposure, a root canal can remove the source of the pain completely and save the tooth.

We Handle the Insurance, So You Don’t Have To

Desensitizing treatment is often covered by dental insurance.  We’ll take care of the paperwork so you can focus on feeling better.

Don't Suffer In Pain For One More Day!

If you’re wincing with every sip of hot coffee, avoiding ice-cold treats, or feeling pain when brushing, rinsing, or enjoying citrus and red wine, you don’t have to live with sensitive teeth. Relief is possible—and we can help.
